What is detoxification?

Detoxification takes place in the body naturally and it is essential for our health. It is carried out by the cells and waste is excreted out. We are made to do this! But, our detoxification genes can play a significant role in detoxification. Genes directly impact the bodies ability to eliminate toxins leading to a build up in the body of heavy metals, byproducts from processes in the body and environmental toxins. And a process called methylation may not be working optimally. This means master antioxidants, essential for liver detoxification, might be lacking.


In addition, the toxicity we are exposed to can be HUGE and our body can be under extreme stress. Our toxic load increases and our body may need support.

Our toxic load is increased by:

  • Chemicals

  • Environmental toxins

  • Medications

  • Pesticides

  • Aflatoxins from mould

  • Heavy metals

Some signs you might need to support detoxification

If we aren’t detoxifying in our cells and eliminating toxins out, this shows up in our body in different ways.

  • Issues with your skin

  • Digestive issues and discomfort

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Fatigue & brain fog

  • Feelings of anger

  • Regular headaches & migraines

  • Sensitivity to smells

  • Body odour when sweating


This is not an exhaustive list and everyone’s symptoms can be different.

Steps to support detoxification naturally

  1. MOVE! My first foundation for health.

    • Take a walk daily for at least 20 minutes, skip, bounce or run - anything that makes your sweat and gets your blood and lymph circulation flowing!

    • Dry brushing is also excellent for your lymph and circulation. It is easy to include this in your routine just before you shower.

    • You need to move but so do your bowels, at least once a day. If you’re constipated, include more fibre in your diet.


    NOURISH! My second foundation for health.

    • Eat a diet rich in antioxidants, having a colourful plate of vegetables at least once a day.

    • Eating protein with every meal for the amino acids you need in the detoxification process.

    • Eating organic food most of the time will also reduce your toxic load.

    • Dandelion root and artichoke support detoxification in the liver. You can try both of these as a herbal tea, aim for at least one cup a day.

    • You can also support your bodies methylation process through targeted supplements, but I would recommend working with a practitioner to do this!


    HEAL! My third foundation for health is about maintaining health and mindset.

    • Clean up your environment. Think about products you inhale or put on your skin, replace cleaning products with natural products at home, use steel cookware and store food in glass, not plastic.

    • Check out the YUKA app, a food and cosmetic scanner which gives you information about the ingredients in products so you can decide which are better and cleaner for you!

    • Believe you can heal! Everyday for 30 days, write down and visualise specific things about what you will feel like in good health. You become what you believe!
