How Motherhood Sparked My Business (When I thought it would do the opposite)

I have always been someone who works hard and puts the hours in. I don’t shy away from the task in hand and absolutely love to learn but I was quite worried about how I would start working for myself and take care of a new born baby! I qualified as a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist 6 months after having my baby boy (I actually submitted an essay whilst I was in labour). Before I qualified, I was telling myself that I was foolish for trying to start up my business, that I should be concentrating on my baby and that it would literally be impossible.

Imposter Syndrome? Gone.
What I found was the complete opposite: I’d never felt more productive, more energised, or more motivated in my life. Becoming a new mother, lit a fire in me that was on another level and that I did not know I had! It was a fire that burns away self-doubt, sweeps aside excuses, and silences the voice of imposter syndrome. I don’t have the luxury of even doubting myself. And that necessity transforms fear into fuel. There’s no room for imposter syndrome when your purpose is greater than your doubts.
The reason why? My business isn’t just a passion project anymore, it’s my purpose. It’s something that must succeed, for my family, and for my clients. That belief fuels me in ways no productivity hack ever could.
Instinct & Focus
Motherhood has sharpened my intuition like nothing else. The same instinct that tunes me in to my child’s needs also guides me in business. I’ve learned to trust my gut, to act decisively, and be resilient (although this is an ongoing process). I also found that launching my nutritional therapy business gave me a focus each day and manage my energy wisely. I expected it to be exhausting but working actually energised me and I built a momentum with such clarity of what I wanted to achieve.
Strength & Purpose
This journey has shown me that productivity isn’t about doing more, it’s been about aligning with my deeper “why” and telling my story. When your fire is lit, when your intuition leads the way, and when your strength is rooted in passion, everything changes.
I share this not just as a mum or as a business owner, but as a reminder: the barriers in your head aren’t real. Believe in yourself that you must show up for what matters most. I guarantee that’s the game-changer.
